Don"t Fall Prey to These Acne Lies
Don't believe everything you hear about acne.
There are some terrible untruths going around that will have you doing some of the most ridiculous things, and at the end of the day you'll still have acne.
I've revealed the truth behind those lies below so you can focus only on the proper things required to clear your skin.
Lie #1: The sun/tanning cures acne.
Sure the sun feels good on your skin, creates vitamin D, and gives you a warm glow.
But when it comes to acne, it's not a permanent cure.
A tan can temporarily cover up the redness of pimples, but it doesn't make it so you won't get any more.
In fact, the drying effect that the sun produces can stimulate your cells to produce even more sebum (when you've already got too much).
So it could worsen your situation rather than make it better.
Plus if you don't use non-comedogenic sunscreen, you are setting yourself up for pre-mature wrinkling and possibly even skin cancer later on in life.
Don't go from one skin condition to another.
Protect yourself from the sun.
Lie #2: Popping pimples makes them go away faster.
Just the opposite in fact.
When you pop a pimple you're actually pushing the pimple deeper into your skin (which takes much longer to heal) and also spreading the inflammation under your skin to surrounding pores, causing even more acne.
In addition to all that, you could be creating scars on your face that don't go away once the pimple has healed.
Instead of making the problem better, you've just make it three times as bad! And covering up a crusty scab with make-up is much harder than covering a pimple.
The bottom line - don't pick at them! Lie #3: Acne is a cosmetic disease.
If you've ever had acne you know that it affects more than just how you look.
It actually can affect every aspect of your life.
Self-esteem, social skills, confidence - all of those take a hit when you have acne.
You can become depressed, isolated, and even suidical all because of those little red bumps.
Covering them up doesn't make you feel better on the inside.
Acne is a serious disease that should not be brushed of as just on the outside - it is a life changing disease that scars more than just your face.
Treat it as such.
Lie #4: Washing your face more often will clear up acne.
You may think to yourself, "acne is formed by sebum, so if I just wash it off frequently, I won't get zits".
Dead wrong.
Whenever you wash your face, you're stimulating the hair follicles to produce sebum (oil).
If you wash more than twice a day, you'll over-stimulate the pores and have more acne than you began with! If you wash only once a day, you're leaving the existing sebum on your skin too long and allowing it time to clog pores and get infected with bacteria.
Twice a day is the magic number for washing your face.
No more, no less.
