    Nourishing Your Thyroid Through Diet

    • 1). Have your physician check your thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), T3, T4, and thyroid antibody levels to help determine the overall functional ability of your thyroid. A synthetic hormone replacement is the only Food and Drug Administration-approved way to nourish your thyroid.

    • 2). If you are prescribed a thyroid supplement, avoid concurrently consuming products such as dietary fiber, walnuts, calcium, antacid, soybean oil, cholesterol-control medication, and cottonseed meal, which can interfere with the absorption of thyroid medication.

    • 3). Eat foods that contain healthy fats that stimulate metabolism, such as extra virgin olive oil, fresh butter, coconut oil, safflower oil, or grapeseed oil. Avoid greasy foods that are fried in animal fat or peanut, corn or vegetable oil.

    • 4). Avoid food that contain peanuts. Peanuts contain goitrogen which disrupts the ability for the thyroid to produce hormones. Always cook foods like brussel sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage before eating.

    • 5). Exercise for the recommended one hour a day. All types of exercise stimulate the function of the thyroid.
