Saving The Environment - How To Make A Difference On This Earth
Do you remember the discovery of harming dolphins with the practice of using nets when catching tuna? I remember when I had learned of this awful display.
I educated myself and witnessed videos and found it most disturbing.
It did not help that dolphins are also one of my favorite animals.
My passion to help them was strong, yet, how can one person be heard in this big dilemma? I started to hold letter-writing campaigns at my college during Earth Day festivals and other events.
I had all ages join in, from young to old.
I sent petitions to the big companies, to the CEO's, and I got braver and began calling the CEO's, leaving messages on my concerns.
I never gave up, even when it seemed impossible or others told me to give up.
Then one day I got a letter from a big Tuna company, assuring me that changes were on the way.
They sent me marketing posters and brochures promoting the new dolphin safe tuna.
I didn't believe them fully and kept writing and calling.
Never stop even when they say they will.
Seeing is believing.
Today we see the dolphin safe tuna symbol on most tuna fish cans and although we need to continue to keep watch, I know that my tiny voice was a part of a collective of voices, working on positive change and with much tenacity it paid off to helping our fellow friend, the dolphin.
I believe that many tiny voices can make one booming voice and it is possible to stand up, helping the environment and the people on this planet.
There is much work to be done.
What are you passions? What drives you to make a difference?
