Uveitis

• Inflammation of the uvea is known as a condition called uveitis. The uvea is comprised of three areas: the iris, the ciliary body and the choroid. Symptoms can include pain or tenderness in and around the eye, a sensitivity to bright light, and extreme difficulty in focusing on objects.
  
  

Prednisone

• Prednisone is the active ingredient in most medications that contain steroids.This corticosteroid is a synthesized version of the steroids that are created by the adrenal glands in the body.
  
  

Side Effects

• Patients may experience a stinging sensation when eye drops containing prednisone are applied. This sensation should fade quickly. Applied topically, the drops are far less likely to cause the many common side effects associated with oral steroids.
  
  

Warning

• Any changes or impairment in vision should be reported to a physician while using eye drops containing prednisone.
  
  

Fun Fact

• When administered topically, prednisone can help to alleviate the symptoms of poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac exposure.
