- 1). Strip the mattress, removing all pillows, blankets, sheets and other bedding.
- 2). Wrap the mattress to keep it clean during the move. If you have the time and resources, you can buy a durable, plastic mattress bag from a moving supplies store. If not, wrap it in canvas, a clean tarp or old fitted sheets. Use duct tape to hold the wrapping in place.
- 3). Flip the mattress up onto one of its sides and lean it against a wall until you are ready to move it. Create a clear path between the mattress and the moving truck.
- 4). Go to one end of the mattress while your friend goes to the other. Bend down at the knees so that you can get one hand under the mattress. Use the other one to hold the mattress on its now-vertical side — you must keep one hand here to balance it and keep it from falling over as you move.
- 5). Load the mattress into the moving truck, taking care that it is not bent or folded over.
