How to Make a Canoe in Preschool
- 1). Fold a 9 by 12-inch piece of brown construction paper in half so the fold is on the 12-inch side.
- 2). Draw a canoe shape on the paper for your preschoolers. Make sure the bottom of the boat is on the fold. You only need to draw the sides and the top of the canoe so the children can cut along those lines.
- 3). Cut out the canoe. Do not cut along the bottom fold.
- 4). Use the hole-puncher to punch 3 or 4 holes in each of the short sides of the canoe.
- 5). Thread one of the pieces of yarn through the bottom hole and tie a knot to secure it. Wrap the yarn through the other holes, weaving in through the top of a hole and up through the bottom of the next hole. Secure with a knot at the end of the last hole. Repeat this process on the other set of holes.
- 6). Decorate the canoe with Native American drawings, if desired.
- 1). Peel a strip of birch bark at least 3 by 5 inches from a dead birch tree.
- 2). Fold the bark along the 5-inch-long side. Draw a canoe shape and cut out with scissors. Do not cut along the bottom of the canoe.
- 3). Glue the side edges together with a thin layer of white or hot glue. Let the canoe dry.
