How to Make Bordered Cushions
- 1). Measure your cushion insert. Add 6 inches to both length and width. Cut one piece of fabric.
- 2). Add 3 inches to the width of the fabric and cut a second piece. Fold the second piece of fabric in half widthwise and cut.
- 3). Separate your two back pieces where you cut the fabric in half. Each piece should be short along the top and bottom and longer down the sides. Sew a 1/2-inch hem along the right center side edge of the left piece. Sew a 1/2-inch hem along the left center edge of the right piece.
- 4). Place your large fabric piece face up on the table. Place your two back pieces face down, and align the outside corners. Your hems in the middle should overlap by 1 1/2 inches. (This overlap gap is how you insert the cushion later.) Pin your fabrics together.
- 5). Sew a 1/2-inch hem around the entire outer edge of the fabrics. Turn the fabrics right side out and sew a seam 2 1/2 inches from all sides. Sew a second seam 1/4 inch from all sides. Iron your seams flat.
- 6). Insert your cushion through the opening in the back of the cover.
