Home Office Decorating Ideas
Does your home office need a bit of a lift? Does the dull decor stifle your ability to work well in that space? By making a few changes to the décor, you can get rid of the clutter and at the same time improve both creativity and productivity.
Here are some ideas for you if you have had enough of trying to work in that boring room.
The first thing to do is to list those things you really want to change.
It's likely to be quite a long list.
For example, would you like more desk space and less clutter? Are the colors too drab, making it a depressing place to work? If you have your own business, you don't want to be anything but happy working at it, so you have to correct these problems.
Start by getting rid of that clutter.
Firstly, get that mail sorted.
All you need is a few nice looking storage containers, labeled separately so you can sort your documents into them.
Junk mail that's just lying around can go straight into the trash.
You aren't likely to need any of it, and if you did you could find it online anyway.
Now any important papers can be sorted into the appropriate filing containers, and the rest can be thrown out.
Having removed all clutter, the containers should be stacked up, with their labels showing so that you can get at their contents easily.
It's important that you have enough desk space to be able to work comfortably.
If you don't have this you will get frustrated and not work efficiently.
Just some simple changes can fix this.
A monitor which can be mounted on the wall is a great idea, placed at eye level.
You can now still see your monitor, but have all that extra working space on the desk.
Even more working space can be gained by stashing your office supplies.
You can easily make your own storage table which has underneath storage space.
Just buy some plywood and enough felt to cover it, three small filing cabinets and three wall brackets.
Set your filing cabinets a foot apart and about a foot and a half away from the wall.
Fix the brackets behind them, on a level with their tops.
Lay the plywood, covered with the felt, on top of these.
Bring the cabinets to the front, leaving no visible lip.
Now you have storage space as well as extra work space.
Your work projects won't slip around or get muddled, thanks to the covering of felt.
Having sorted out the clutter and gained extra work space, you can now think about colors.
Think of a color scheme and paint your walls accordingly.
Then choose an area rug to fit your theme.
If you have rented office space then it may be you cannot paint, in which case the main way to add your choice of color is with an area rug.
You can find a rug to suit any style or space you have.
In addition, they are easily cleaned and protect the floor, and are a much easier option than painting or rearranging furniture.
