National Pharmacies Offering Discounted Drugs

Updated June 09, 2015.

In an effort to help patients fight off rising health care and medication costs, three national pharmacies are offering many prescriptions at a significantly reduced rate. One pharmacy is even offering 14-day courses of the most popular antibiotics absolutely free. Take a look at these offers to see if you can benefit.

Meijer Pharmacy – The following antibiotics are being offered free of charge regardless of your prescription drug coverage.

The prescriptions must be picked up at the pharmacy and are limited to a 14-day supply.
  • Amoxicillin
  • Cephalexin
  • Bactrim
  • Cipro
  • Ampicillin
  • Penicillin VK
  • Erythromycin

Target Pharmacy – Offers 30-day supplies of hundreds of generic drugs for only $4. Target says this will especially help those senior citizens that fall into the "Medicare doughnut hole," meaning they have significant co-pays despite having Medicare Part D prescription coverage. Competitors such as CVS Pharmacy says the Target plan is meaningless because the drugs on their list are old, less frequently used medications or the listed drugs already have minimal co-pays associated with them. You can find the Target list on their website.*

Wal-Mart / Sam’s Club – This plan is very similar to the Target plan. Over 300 drugs representing 27 percent of Wal-Mart's prescription drug sales are now available for $4 for a 30-day supply. Like the Target Plan, CVS argues that the Wal-Mart offering is little more than a gesture and will not help most senior citizens.

The Wal-Mart list can be found on their pharmacy website.*

If you think you can benefit from these discounted drug offers, talk to your pharmacist or your physician.
