Chapter 7

• When you file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, a bankruptcy trustee takes control of your property. The bankruptcy trustee can sell your property, allow you to keep your property or abandon that property to you. The trustee cannot make arbitrary decisions concerning your property, however. She must apply the applicable rules of law to your bankruptcy case and categorize your property as being exempt from sale or not exempt from sale.
