Guide Review - The Incredibles: Blu-ray Review

In an age of frivolous law suits and litigation-happy people, it's no surprise that the superheroes of the city had to go underground. Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl are now only Bob Parr and his wife, Helen. They have three children: Dash, who has to hide his super speed ability; Violet, who can disappear and create force fields, and little Jack-Jack, the baby who has not yet exhibited super ability.

But, the dull life of an insurance agent is just not enough for Bob, and he finds himself donning his hero costume once again to perform covert operations for a secret government entity. At least, he thought is was a secret government entity, as it turns out, he walked right into a trap. Thankfully, he has a super family and a very in tune wife.

Their enemy is powerful and cunning, but if they pull together, they just might make it out alive.

An exciting superhero tale that has unmatched depth, insight and heart within the animated hero genre -- not to mention amazing animation that was well ahead of its time and still looks amazing -- The Incredibles was meant for HD. Pixar fans have been waiting for this release, and they will not be disappointed. The conversion to HD is flawless and the movie looks fantastic, but who would expect less from Pixar? So, onto the new bonus features.

No one is going to buy this movie for the bonus features, which is good, because while the new material is fun, there's not a lot of depth to most of it. The interactive "Nomanisan Island" feature is a little weak, but other features give fun insights into the making-of and the Pixar people.

The important thing with the features, is that the incredible short film "Boundin'" is in HD. I know many will argue with me, but we think that is still Pixar's greatest short. I mean really, "Ain't it nice to know there are jackalopes around?" The short has special meaning to me, because believe it or not, I did spend a few years living in Wyoming, and those jackalopes are sage creatures. We never could actually catch one.

* As a note for parents, The Incredibles is rated PG, for action violence. The movie is chalk full of weapons, explosions, and super hero cartoon violence. The villain is a megalomaniacal wannabe who was slighted as a kid and decided to grow up and take it out on all superheros and then the rest of the world. The movie also contains some sarcasm and a few rude words, and a couple of brief instances of smoking and alcohol use.
