Where to Camp near Cedar Point

A family trip to Cedar Point can get expensive. One way to save on money while enjoying the beautiful, northeast Ohio landscape is to camp instead of staying at a Cedar Point area hotel. Sandusky and the area around the park have several, excellent campgrounds. Below are our favorites:

•Cedar Point Camper Village

Located within walking distance of Cedar Point, Camper Village offers 209 deluxe (electricity, water, sewer, and cable) and electricity only sites for RVs and campers. Facilities at the village include an outdoor swimming pool, Lake Erie beach access, a coin-operated laundry, and a general store. There's also a shuttle for guests to points all around the Cedar Point peninsula. Guests of Camper Village qualify for discounted tickets to Cedar Point.

•Camp Sandusky

Located just six miles (10 minutes) from Cedar Point, Camp Sandusky offers Amish-built cabins, tent camp sites and RV sites--all on the shores of Lake Erie. The campground offers free wireless Internet access throughout. Facilities include showers and restrooms, a children's playground, a bunny farm, a general store, a basketball court and a coin-operated laundry room.

•Lazy J RV Resort

Located 14 miles south of Cedar Point, Lazy J RV Resort offers tent and RV sites; two-bedroom, air-conditioned cottages; and one-room cabins--all in a wooded, spacious setting. The resort, which is open between May 1 and October 31, offers wireless Internet access throughout. Facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, a fishing pond, shower and restroom facilities, mini-golf, a children's playground, a ball diamond, picnic facilities, a snack bar, and a game room.

•East Harbor State Park

Located on the shores of Lake Erie about 20 minutes from Cedar Point, East Harbor State Park offers 571 campsites, some primitive sites, some with electricity, and some with full hook-up facilities. Facilities at the 1831-acre state park include a marina, two boat docks, hiking trails, a 1,500-square foot sand beach, toilet and shower facilities, picnic tables, and a playground. The park also offers free, wireless Internet access throughout.

•Crystal Rock Campground

Located 11 miles from Cedar Point and just minutes from the Lake Erie ferries, Crystal Rock Campground offers RV and tent sites with no services, just electric, full hook-ups and electric, cable, water, sewer and WiFi. There are also several basic cabins on the property for rent. Crystal Rock is open from early April through October and sites may be rented for the night, week, month or season.

Facilities at Crystal Rock include restrooms/shower facilities, a general store, laundry facilities, a game room, and a playground.
