Definition:

Founded by Russ Ivey in 2004, the Metropolitan Atlanta Theater Awards (or MATs) honor those who excel in the area of community and non-union professional theater. Recipients and nominees are honored each year in a local awards ceremony, and any non-Equity theater in the Atlanta metro area may submit an application for nomination consideration, with theaters allowed to submit one musical, one play, and unlimited original works as long as the actual production performances fall within the official season.
