Pittsburgh Car Cruises

    • Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is known as the "Steel City," because of its once prominent steel mills and industrial corporations. Today, that history of industrialization and modernization is evident in its car culture. There are many opportunities for enthusiasts to showcase their historic and vintage automobiles in the city and surrounding areas.

    Monthly Cruises

    • The North Way Christian Community in McCandless, Pennsylvania, just outside of Pittsburgh, offers a car cruise every Friday during the summer from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. until Labor Day. A different kind of car is featured each week; for example, Jeeps and off-road vehicles could be featured one week, classic muscle cars might be featured the next. The event is free to the public. The Steel Town Corvette Club, at 180 Warwick Drive in Pittsburgh, also holds a car cruise the third Tuesday of every month. The location changes from month to month.

    Annual Cruises

    • The Mt. Pleasant Car Cruise at Pittsburgh's Frick Park is a 24-year summer tradition, with many different makes and models on display. The event helps raise money for the local community, and there is a $2 admission fee for ages 12 and up. The cruise, which runs from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., features entertainment, food, a raffle and a model car contest. Bellevue, Pennsylvania also holds an annual car cruise on Main Street each May in the Lincoln Avenue Business District from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. There is no admission charge. More than 300 vintage and muscle cars are displayed; the event also welcomes show bikes. Spectators can enjoy free ice cream, snacks and games. DJs from local radio stations provide live entertainment.

    Grand Prix

    • On the third weekend of July, Pittsburgh hosts its Vintage Grand Prix, showcasing vintage cars like Corvettes and Jaguars, on 7th Avenue and Schenley Park. The free show runs from 9 a.m. Saturday to 6 p.m. on Sunday. There is also food, live entertainment, racing and a parade.
