How to Find a Home Health Agency

    • 1). Contact your insurance company directly to inquire about covered home health options. If you subscribe to private insurance -- and don't have the means to pay much cash out-of-pocket -- this can be your best option, as it ensures whichever selection you make will be covered.

    • 2). Visit the Medicare website to search for Medicare-certified home health services by ZIP code -- and, if you have it, using the full or partial name of an agency you may have heard about. You don't necessarily have to have Medicare (health insurance the government provides to senior citizens over the age of 65) in order to use these services, but performing a search using this utility ensures you're using a service that Medicare certifies. • 3). Ask any doctors and other medical professionals with whom you regularly come in contact (be they your regular internist or a specialist, or staff at the hospital where you're receiving treatment at the moment) to recommend home health services. In certain instances, doctors and nurses who treat you at the hospital (and with whom you feel comfortable) may operate home health practices on the side.
