- 1). Replace any blinds with cords in a child's room with cordless blinds. Move the child's crib or bed away from the window.
- 2). Consider replacing other corded blinds in your home with cordless blinds. If you prefer blinds with cords, replace older blinds with products made after 2001, because these are manufactured with more safety features, according to the Window Covering Safety Council.
- 3). Retrofit all older window treatments. Cut the pull cord on each blind above the tassel. If the blind cord has an equalizer buckle, remove it. Push the ends of the cord through a new tassel and tie knots at the ends.
- 4). Install cord stops on all older blinds by lowering the blinds to cover the entire window and locking the position of the cords at the head rail. Create a loop for each cord at the head rail and insert each cord stop over the loop. Insert the loose end of the cord into the loop and tighten it to knot it.
