    • Interior designers made average wages of $24.99 per hour, or $51,990 per year, as of May 2009, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Salaries ranged from $26,980 or less per year for the lowest-paid 10 percent of interior designers to $83,620 or up for the highest-paid 10 percent. A Payscale survey of 2,381 interior designers found salaries ranging from $32,324 to $49,934, including bonuses, profit sharing and commissions.

    Earnings by Degree

    • Interior designers certified by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) make $37,632 to $51,175, according to Payscale. Those certified by the International Design Alliance (IDA) earn $39,191 to $49,789. Other top-paying degrees for interior designers include a Bachelor of Arts, holders of which had salaries ranging from $33,370 to $49,797, and interior design degrees, which produced salaries of $32,398 to $49,031 for holders.

    Top Employers

    • As of May 2009, the biggest employers of interior designers, according to the BLS, were specialized design services, which employed 17,730 at an average salary of $52,400, and architectural, engineering and related services, which provided jobs to 9,510 interior designers at an average salary of $56,060.
