- 1). Fold the edge of your hemline in 1/8-inch and press along the edge. Pressing the fabric will give you a visible guide when sewing.
- 2). Set the stitch length on your machine to "1" and the stitch width to the widest setting. Your stitch type for a rolled hem will be a zigzag stitch.
- 3). Lower your needle by turning the hand wheel on your machine. The needle should be in the "down-right-side" as opposed to the "down-left-side" position. Starting on the right side will give you a perfectly rolled edge.
- 4). Align the ironed edge of the fabric with your presser foot, so that the folded portion is on the right side. The fabric should be close to the needle, but not under it.
- 5). Pull the top thread and bobbin thread toward the back of the machine and slowly make your first stitch.
- 6). Sew slowly around the edge of your fabric making sure the needle enters the fabric on the left side of the hemline and misses it on the right side. Sew until you reach your starting threads. Backstitch for 1/8-inch to secure your stitches.
