Things to Do in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico

    Whale Watching

    • Banderas Bay (the "Bay of Flags"), on which Nuevo Vallarta sits, is a breeding ground for humpback whales between December 15th and March 31st every year. Whale-watching tours are readily available, and both adult and baby humpbacks are commonly visible from the tour boat, along with sea turtles and a variety of other marine life. Both full-day and half-day trips are available at reasonable prices.

    Dolphin Swims

    • Nuevo Vallarta offers full-day swims with tame bottlenose dolphins in waist-deep water that are appropriate even for small children. It is also possible to spend a day with a professional dolphin trainer learning how to work with these magnificent creatures. If you would prefer wild dolphins, from December through March you can join a full-day dolphin-chasing expedition. Although there is no absolute guarantee that you will catch up with one, sightings of wild dolphin are common and encounters with other forms of exotic marine life are certain.

    Canopy Tours

    • If you have ever dreamed of becoming Tarzan for a day, then Nuevo Vallarta's canopy tours are for you. You can glide high above the ground through the rainforests where Arnold Schwartzeneggar filmed "Predator," while you are harnessed safely to ziplines strung between the treetops.

    Other Activities

    • Nuevo Vallarta offers few cultural activities due to its status as a planned vacation resort that caters to Americans and Europeans. However, it does offer a near-endless array of entertaining activities that revolve around its natural beauty and picture-perfect weather, such as kiteboarding, sailing, SCUBA diving, parachuting, jetskiing, surfing, and golf. For nearby cultural activities, visit indigenous ethnic villages, or tour cathedrals and 500-year-old buildings in Puerto Vallarta. Tours can be arranged through local and international travel agencies.
