How to Repair a Canopy on a Camper Vehicle

    • 1). Clean the canopy surrounding the damage with a chemical cleaner recommended for your canopy's material. Ensure all trace of the polish used on nearby paintwork is removed, along with atmospheric deposits and the glue from temporary repairs, perhaps made with duct tape.

    • 2). Support a flat panel of wood beneath the damaged area. The panel must be rigid and bigger than the area you will be repairing. On top of the panel, butt together the two sides, if you are repairing a tear, or piece together the ragged parts of the canopy left around a hole. Use repair tape if you have to fix a tear, and a patch kit if you have to repair a hole. Use a dedicated repair tape or patch made specially for the material of your canopy, whether canvas, plastic, rubber-coated or vinyl. Follow the manufacturer's instructions when applying the repair tape or patch.

    • 3). Position the panel of wood on top of the part of the canopy you have just repaired. Repeat the process of applying the tape or patch to the underside of the tear or hole.
