Successful Women Authors
There was a time when women could never really amount to much, it was a man's world and the woman's place in that world was looking after their husband and children.
At school girls were taught how to be the perfect cook, cleaner and wife.
The only aspirations women had were to find and marry a man.
But times have changed.
Technology has given homes machines to do all the house work so it was only a natural progression when women started to want jobs and get out of the house.
Today women have jobs and many are just as powerful as men.
There are women in business and women running countries.
Many women chose a career rather than the traditional housewife set up.
Male authors have hogged the list of best selling fiction authors for a long time, but recently some very successful women authors are joining the list.
My favourites are below: If success were based on money earned, J.
K.
Rowling would top the list for being the most successful women writer ever.
The phenomenon that is Harry Potter gave her instant fame and riches that even she couldn't have dreamt off.
It is helped that she wrote 10 books in the series and each went on to become block buster films.
It seems quality and quantity worked for her.
It will be interesting to see what she writes about next.
Enid Blyton is the author I was brought up reading.
The Famous Five and The Secret Severn stick out in my memory.
Noddy was probably her most famous character which is still around today.
She was born 1897 in London and went on to write over 800 different books throughout her career.
Her books have been translated to other languages over 3400 times making her equal to Shakespeare.
Beatrix Potter was a great author but also talented illustrator.
She wrote very imaginative children's books which are still popular today.
Think of the classic Tale of Peter Rabbit and you will know who I am talking about.
She lived from 1866 until 1943 with much of her life spent up in the Lake District where she owed a farm and became a sheep breeder later in life.
She was a real animal lover and kept many pets as a child which gave her much satisfaction.
Her artist skills showed through early in life as she would often be found sketching her pets and the country side.
Jane Austen is another famous English novelist who lived from 1775 to 1817.
She is most famous for writing romantic fiction around the time of the early 19th century.
She is known for novels such as Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Emma and Mansfield Park to name the more famous.
Jane's works brought her little personal renown because she published all her books anonymously.
Today Jane Austen is revered as much as any other literary figure in history.
If you are a budding author and a woman, I hope you succeed in becoming as successful as some of the authors above.
If you believe in yourself enough and work hard enough, you too could be joining the list of successful women authors.
