How to Cite a Book With Different Authors in MLA

How to Cite a Book with Multiple Authors in the MLA Style

    • 1). List the names of the authors, noting who is given first credit on the cover of the book. Record the first author's name in last name, first name format, and follow it with the other authors' names, in the order listed on the book, in first name, last name format. If the book has more than three authors, you may simply type "et al" after the first author's name.

    • 2). On the works-cited page, finish the citation as you would for any other book. Type the book's title in italics as its own sentence. The final sentence of the citation should be the city of publication, followed by a colon and the name of the publisher, followed by a comma and the year of publication.

    • 3). For in-text citations, MLA style allows a choice between using all of the authors' last names, or just the first author's name with "et al." In either case, follow the name or names with the page number for the information used.
