Facts On Otoplasty-Philippines

If protruding or misshapen ears bother you or your child, you might consider having an otoplasty, also known as ear pinning surgery. It is a procedure used to reshape one or both ears. This includes surgery to refine or reshape deformed ears, pin back protruding ears, or correct the size or placement of ears to make the ears more proportional to the size and shape of the head and face. Otoplasty also includes ear / earlobe reduction and cauliflower ear surgery to remove excess skin and cartilage.
Most cosmetic ear surgery patients are children between the ages of four and fourteen. The ears are fully grown by age four, and the sooner a child undergoes otoplasty, the less teasing and embarrassment he or she will experience growing up. Ear plastic surgery is also an excellent option for adults who suffer from large, protruding ears or stretched earlobes. Adults of all ages are generally excellent candidates for otoplasty surgery especially if they're in good health and are non-smoking.
Ear pinning and ear reshaping surgery is usually performed under a local anesthetic with a sedative for adults and general anesthesia for children. To begin otoplasty surgery, the surgeon makes an incision behind the ear to expose the cartilage. The cartilage is then reshaped and any excess skin is removed. Finally, if necessary, the ear is repositioned more closely to the head, and the incision is closed with non-removable stitches or sutures. Cosmetic ear surgery generally lasts between one to two hours, depending on the extent of the surgery.
Like any other surgeries the cost of otoplasty may vary depending on the difficulty of patient's condition, extent of the surgery, experience of the surgeon, and other factors. The cost will include surgeon's fee, hospital or surgical facility costs, anesthesia fees, prescriptions for medication post-surgery garments, and medical tests.
Cosmetic surgery is very affordable in the Philippines and costs are much lower when compared to the United States and other countries. However, since the success of your surgery is largely dependent on your choice of surgeon, cost should not be your main consideration for your decision to undergo cosmetic surgery in the Philippines. To avoid unsatisfactory results, it is best to choose a surgeon who has completed an accredited residency training program in plastic and reconstructive surgery. He should have extensive experience in the procedure you will undergo.
Always remember that in choosing a plastic surgeon for ear surgery, remember that the surgeon's experience and your comfort with him or her are just as important as the cost of the surgery.
