How to Replace a Refrigerator's Ice Maker Line

    • 1). Twist the water supply knob clockwise to close the valve that delivers water to the ice maker. This knob may be located on the waterline behind the refrigerator or next to the water pipe beneath the sink in your kitchen.

    • 2). Unplug the refrigerator power cord and slide the appliance away from the wall.

    • 3). With a pair of pliers or small wrench, unscrew the connector on each end of the ice maker line where it attaches to the water pipe and to the back of your refrigerator.

    • 4). Lower the hose from the back of the refrigerator into a bucket to catch the water and prevent it from flowing across the floor.

    • 5). Remove old Teflon tape and any dirt or gunk from the nozzle threads where the waterline was connected, using a knife blade.

    • 6). Wrap the threads at the nozzle on the water supply valve and the back of your refrigerator with Teflon tape, overlapping each layer slightly with the next layer. Cut the tape with scissors and press firmly around each nozzle.

    • 7). Slip the connector on each end of the new waterline onto the Teflon-wrapped nozzle on the refrigerator and the water supply valve. Tighten each connector clockwise with pliers.

    • 8). Open the knob for the water supply valve to release water and check for leaking. Tighten the connector at each end to stop any leaks.

    • 9). Plug in the refrigerator power cord.
