How to Obtain Power From Outdoor Lamp Light Sensor

    • 1). Turn off the power at the circuit box for the area you are working in.

    • 2). Inspect the wiring of the sensor. Expose the wiring by unscrewing the mounting screws. The number of mounting screws will vary by light fixture, but usually there are only two. You will see two wires for the sensor. One black, going to the power source, and one red, attached to the light or lights on the fixture.

    • 3). Isolate the wire from the sensor connected to the black power wire. Undo the wire nut.

    • 4). Locate the white wire going into the light and undo the wire nut.

    • 5). Strip the new wire with wire strippers one inch from the end, exposing both the black and white wires.

    • 6). Thread the new wire through the new electrical box.

    • 7). Mount the new electrical box near the light, using mounting screws.

Bring all the wires into the electrical box to be connected

    • 8). Twist the new black wire in a clockwise direction to the isolated black wire of the sensor by hand, and then a give it a couple of turns with the snub-nose pliers.

    • 9). Twist the new white wire to the white wires of the light by hand, then give the wires a couple of twists with the snub-nose pliers.

Screw on the wire connectors around the black and the white wires.

Wrap electricians tape around each wire nut. Close the cover to the electrical box and secure with screws.
