Raising Two Boys: The Challenges And Rewards Of Motherhood
One could be a doctor, a lawyer, an engineer, a scientist, a teacher, an astronomer or any other significant profession any great man could ever be.
But none could ever match the respect and regard the entire nation can give to the one who is responsible of carrying a child for nine months or less in her womb, breastfeeding and feeding every growing infant till wee hours, being up late and rising from bed earlier than anyone, looking after the needs of her husband, her older children and the baby and still trying to keep herself presentable and even able to do her job as a career woman.
I have been a mother to my two boys: Ono, 7 years old and DJ, 4.
I have to raise them myself since my husband has to work far from where we live.
Living in one place with my husband has not been feasible for us because of my wanting to raise my children in an environment that is conducive to rearing a God-fearing, obedient and soon to be responsible citizens of the society.
I have never been interested much about the latest gadgets and technical toys nowadays however, growing up with my 2 boys required me to at least be updated with these.
Blending with their interests, playing their kind of games, adapting to their way of talk and getting involved in things that interest them most has become part of my system.
I want them to feel that their Mom can be like them.
But they are constantly being reminded that there is a margin of boundary of my being their playmate, their friend and that above all I am their mother who sees to it that they are disciplined and that they shall grow responsible.
That is Motherhood.
Anybody could get a career that would put them in a grandiose pedestal, get financial reward and be among the rich and famous people in the entire universe.
But none could ever replace how we shall look at a mother, the one whom we consider as the backbone of the family, the light of our household, the woman behind the success of every husband and child.
A mother becomes humbled by a comment that acknowledges her for raising a leader like her son at his early age, making a young man smart enough to get an outstanding award.
Your son's every performance on stage as he sings, acts and even delivers a speech makes you realize how blessed you have been after all, sacrificing where you could have been professionally if you have chosen to prioritize your career rather than the basic role of being a mother.
It is every mother's consolation to witness how his son's values and beliefs has greatly influenced his dealings with other people and in due time his decisions in life.
Motherhood would also include being most affected and saddened when any of your children gets sick.
You would hope and pray that your motherly love would be possible to alleviate or take away all the pain and discomfort your child is experiencing.
It is but normal for any mother to shield his son or daughter from any possible stimuli that would harm him or her.
She is on the guard 24/7.
All of these and much more are among the priceless experiences a mother could treasure.
Every experience would remind her of the tough yet rewarding role she plays.
And in every mother's prayer is that earnest wish for her children to have a Christ-centered, comfortable and meaningful life they will hand down to the coming generations.
These are among the challenges and rewards Motherhood entails.
