How to Install Window Trim
- 1). Roll down all of the windows in your vehicle. Remove the old window trim by prying it up with a flathead screwdriver. This will take quite a bit of heavy pulling, but by working from one side to the other, you can get the trim up easily.
- 2). Use a small metal scraper to begin cleaning the surface. Again, work from one side to the other and scrape up as much rubber and adhesive as you can. You may have to work at this at several different angles because the surface is not flat.
- 3). After you have removed as much as you can with the scraper, begin sanding the surface with a very course sandpaper. This should remove most of what is left on the surface. Then, use a wet rag to remove all of the sanded particles.
- 4). Measure the edges of the window with a small measuring tape. Cut your new window trim to the measured sizes with a saw or a very sharp knife. Try to get as clean a cut as possible for a good fit. Also, at any 90-degree corners, make sure to cut the trim at a 45-degree angle.
- 5). Coat the inside of the trim with a standard spray adhesive. Spray only a thin coat to prevent dripping. Then, firmly place the window trim onto the surface. Press hard and hold for a few seconds until the adhesive begins grabbing.
- 6). Allow the trim to dry for several hours before touching or rolling up the windows.
