Decorating a nursery for your little one can be a pleasure, but you need to find the right theme. If you like stars and a celestial theme, then you could also incorporate classic nursery rhymes or songs into the nursery design. Take some time planning the nursery out and you won't have to redecorate for several years. - If you're going to use the classic "Hey Diddle Diddle" rhyme as a backdrop for your star theme, try painting a mural depicting the scene. The nursery walls should be a dark blue, reminiscent of a nighttime sky. Paint stars, a cow jumping over the moon, a cat playing a fiddle and a dish and spoon running away. Use stencils or a projector to outline the images if you're not the best artist. You may also be able to purchase ready-made designs to place on the wall.
- This song is all about the wonder of the stars twinkling at night. Choose bedding with a star theme and then pepper the ceiling with glow-in-the-dark stars. Alternatively, you can purchase stuffed animals that project images of the stars on the ceiling while playing white noise to help your baby sleep.
- Since this rhyme is about the first star that you see at night, you'll want to set only one star as the focal point of the room. This could be a large star on the wall, the ceiling or even just on the bedding. Use vinyl words on the wall incorporating a part of the rhyme, such as "I wish I may, I wish I might."
- Jiminy Cricket sings this song in the movie "Pinocchio," so you can use his image to decorate the room in addition to the stars. Purchase a premade image of Jiminy that you can stick on the wall, with him looking up toward a star. Look for a mobile for the crib that has stars and that plays the song.
- If you really want your decorations to last, consider using the Star Spangled Banner as your theme. Rather than using the traditional red, white and blue--which may be too bright for a baby's nursery--use muted versions of the color, as you would find in Americana decorating. Place an Amish star--usually featured on the sides of houses or barns--on the wall and make a star quilt using muted red, white and blue.
