- 1). Go to a drugstore or mass merchandiser, most of which sell dental items. You'll find wax for braces, and it's inexpensive. You can also get wax from your orthodontist.
- 2). Pinch off a small portion of wax and roll the wax into a small ball. Press the wax against the bracket or wire that's hurting your mouth and smooth the wax over the area with your finger. You should feel relief immediately because the wax covers the rough part of the braces.
- 3). Remove the wax when you eat or brush your teeth. Reapply the wax when it starts to wear thin and you feel the bracket poking through again. You should always take off the old piece of wax and put a new piece on to feel the most comfort.
