How to Care for a Skin Rash From Scented Candle Oil

    • 1). Wash the affected area with a hypoallergenic soap to remove leftover traces of the candle oil. Dry the skin by patting it gently with a soft cloth.

    • 2). Apply either an over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream or antihistamine cream. Spread a light layer to cover the rash area. Hydrocortisone cream contains the steroid hormone hydrocortisone, which reduces inflammation and itching. If you are allergic to hydrocortisone, as some people are, you may choose instead to use an antihistamine cream. Antihistamines combat histamine, a chemical produced during an allergic reaction, and reduce swelling and itching caused by histamine.

    • 3). Place a gauze bandage loosely over the rash if you are going out in public and don't wish for it to be seen or if you have difficulty preventing yourself from scratching the rash; otherwise, keep it uncovered.

    • 4). Add a commercially prepared oatmeal anti-itch bath preparation to the water when you bathe. Use warm water instead of hot to prevent over-drying the skin.

    • 5). Re-apply the hydrocortisone cream or antihistamine cream after bathing and as indicated by the label --- this may be every 4 hours, depending on the type and brand of cream you are using.
