Reflections by Jill - A Weekly Commentary for OLTL for May 31, 2010

< Continued from page 1
Todd’s case in court begins and Tea tries to convince the judge that there is no evidence that Todd pushed Marty down the stairs. The judge says there is enough to hold him over for trial, but lets him out on bail. Todd doesn’t waste any time so he has his thugs kidnap Hannah and tries to get her to admit she pushed Marty. Hannah doesn’t seem to be too afraid of Todd, which is probably a mistake on her part.

I did enjoy her spitting in his face when he removed her gag.

Well, lots of stuff coming up including Bo and Nora’s wedding which I think is going to be great; crazy but great. Stay tuned.

See ya next week.

FAN FEEDBACK AND QUESTIONS

Vishi writes: “I’m really sickened by the way John and Natalie are written these days. There’s no growth to their characters whatsoever, especially after 7 long years on this show as core characters! To start off, let me just say John and Natalie belong together and John/Marty were not a good match. They have no electricity together, much less any passion or magic. John’s reaction to reading Nat’s heartfelt letter was hardly discernible, and what is up with him saying that “Natalie should have never written it”? HUH? He knows Nat better than anyone and knows that Natalie always wears her heart on her sleeve. And when Marty was the one doing all the talking and telling him how he feels about Natalie, and John just standing there doing his usual dumb-founded look really does nothing to show that he has grown.

You would think that he would have matured quite a bit, shown that he is a lot more sure of himself especially since he just went through the excitement of being a dad and then the horrible loss of this baby! As for Natalie, why does she always have to run into another man’s arms whenever her heart gets broken? Natalie always does this when she’s hurt. Just once, why can’t Nat do the right thing and hurt by herself? Or she could have just gone to London like she said she would and had John get on the next flight to chase her down. Wouldn’t that have been as soapy and exciting to watch instead of the same old plot point of a one-night-stand? I am sick of great veteran characters being ruined like this for the sake of writing a story. I am sick of these writers for this show because it appears that their creative minds have collectively dried up.”

Dear Vishi: I couldn’t agree more with your observations. I agree that John and Natalie belong together but they seem to take two steps forward and five steps back. I wasn’t surprised that John had little to say when he and Marty were saying goodbye. John genuinely cares for Marty and I think after she lost the baby so recently and all they had been through, he was in an awkward position where he couldn’t have felt comfortable just saying buh-bye and skipping out the door to get to his one true love. And as for Natalie, I hate the way the writers handle her character. She has that Blair Syndrome where she thinks sex will block out every immediate heartache she has. It’s time the writers made her a better woman that her fans can really get behind and not have to make excuses for.
