The answer is that it is not a creature at all, but merely the simulacrum of a creature or strange-looking face on the water. Reflections on glass, windows and water are notorious for creating such illusions. Some paranormal researchers believe that spirits more readily reveal themselves in such reflections, but I don't think there's good evidence to support that.

They are just interesting reflections that happen to look like familiar forms.

Now if your Uncle Ned died in your house and you capture an image in a reflection that looks exactly like your Uncle Ned, then we might have something to talk about.
