    Message Center

    • With the help of some leftover ribbon and lace, you can complement your home with a message center that is both attractive and functional. This project requires some Styrofoam board cut to the size of your piece. Cover the board with enough quilts batting to wrap around the sides about 2 inches. Cover the batting with fabric of your choosing; select something that matches the decor of the room. This will be the front of the organizer. Ribbon added diagonally across the front provides holders for messages. Allow space in the ribbon for the insertion of messages. Decorate the board with lace edging or for a different look, stretch a rope trim around the sides. Extend the lace or rope to make a hanger for the board. This piece sits as a triangle, connecting from the top left corner to the top right corner. Allow enough range to the hanger so the piece can hook onto a nail or tack. Adornments, such as buttons or flowers will enhance the message center and give it a distinctive look.

    Picket Fence Light Switch Plate

    • This project utilizes popsicle sticks to create a country look for a switch plate. You will require about nine sticks for every single plate, more if you cover a double wide piece. Cut the ends of your popsicle or craft sticks, so they have a triangle shape similar to a picket fence. Glue the sticks to a standard, plastic plate cover. Glue two sticks, horizontally to create a fence appearance. Paint the sticks with your favorite floral design for some country charm. Leave room between the sticks for the light switch to extend and to install screws to the plate once decorated.

    Paper Napkin Curtain Valance

    • If you need a budget-friendly proposal to create a window treatment, you will find paper napkin valances a bargain approach. Visit your local dollar store and buy some pretty paper napkins and a bag of wood clothespins. Open the napkins, so they form a large square. Iron the napkins with a cool iron to remove folds if necessary. Drape the squares across to top of curtains with one pointed end of napkin facing downward. Cover the entire top line of your window with the napkins. Paint the clothespin in a coordinating color. Add a decorative accessory to the pins, such as artificial flowers or ribbons. Bunch the bottom of the curtains in the center and clip on the pins to hold the fabric in place. The result should resemble a faux balloon valance.
