How to Have a Successful Sports Bar

    • 1). Identify and learn about the ideal target market for a sports bar. Think about who is most likely to visit and patronize this type of bar. Narrow it down by gender, income, age, interests and even marital status (for example, single men might be frequent customers).

    • 2). Choose your location wisely based on thorough demographic research on the area. Assure that the people in the area are consistent with your target market for a sports bar.

    • 3). Design your bar in a modern, clean style. Too often, the stereotype of a sports bar is a "hole in the wall," but if you want a successful sports bar that attracts both your target market and an unconventional crowd, renovate the bar, install new furnishings, provide plenty of comfortable seating and make sure that the bar is well-lit.

    • 4). Purchase the latest high-definition televisions for your bar--this will be one of your biggest equipment expenditures. Line each wall behind the longest sides of the bar with your televisions and place one TV in each corner of the bar on a wall mount.

    • 5). Provide plenty of games and distractions in your bar. This might include a pool table, dart board and foosball table. Add a couple of pay-per-play video machines to the corners of the bar tops for people to play video games as they drink and watch the game. This will add additional income to your sports bar.

    • 6). Provide a wide selection of beers in your sports bar in addition to the common domestic brands and liquor choices.
