Why You Should Hem Your Own Pants

Even though everyone has a different height, it seems as though the pants are almost all the same length.
They are designed to fit the average height, and if you are not average, guess what, you will have to hem your pants, or get someone else to do it.
But why take them to someone else, when it is so simple to do it yourself at home.
There are many good reasons why you should just hem them yourself.
First, you really are not saving any time by taking it to a professional, unless they live right next door.
When hemming them yourself you could be done in as little as 30 minutes for one pair of pants, this includes all the time spent taking measurements as well as pressing and sewing.
If taking them to a seamstress all the time spent in driving back and forth could add up to a lot more than just 30 minutes.
If you have never sewn before then it will take you longer until you have had some practice, but once you get good, 30 minutes is all you need from start to finish.
Second, you will save yourself a lot of money.
Hemming a pair of pants costs you nothing more than maybe 5 cents for the thread used.
Taking them to a seamstress will cost at least $10.
00 if not more.
You would have the initial cost of buying a sewing machine, but after hemming about 10 pairs of pants, you will have saved the money which you put into the sewing machine.
Once you get good at hemming your own pants you can then start hemming for friends and family, and make some extra money on the side.
Learning to hem your own pants will teach you the basics of using the sewing machine, as well as the basic sewing skills.
Once you have mastered this, then you can move on to other sewing projects as well.
Plus if you learn how to hem your own pants, going shopping will be a lot more fun, because you will not have to worry about the length anymore, nor will you have to worry about the costs which you will have to pay later just to have them hemmed.
Hemming your own pants may seem like a tedious task at first, but for those who have mastered the skill, it can actually be very rewarding.
So if you find yourself going to your seamstress often, you might want to consider learning how to do this yourself.
