Milk of Magnesia Acne Treatment

Those who suffer from acne know that the number of treatments available is overwhelming, and the range treatment prices doesn't help the confusion.
Milk of magnesia is a product commonly used as a remedy for some digestive problems, but it has recently caught the attention of acne sufferers as an inexpensive topical treatment for acne-prone skin.
This magnesium-based product can be found in most drug stores, and comes in both tablet and liquid form.
For acne treatment, the unflavored liquid should be purchased, along with cotton balls or pads to apply the liquid to the face.
To use, apply a thin coating of milk of magnesia to your face with a cotton ball, wait a few minutes for it to dry, and then rinse with warm water.
You may feel a tightening of your skin while the milk of magnesia is drying, due to the product's oil-absorbing qualities.
Many people swear by milk of magnesia as a cheap and effective treatment for controlling oil production and acne, asserting that the product works because of its ability to absorb excess oil from the skin and to disinfect without being too astringent.
Some people believe that its high alkalinity also helps to combat skin's natural acid production, which can exacerbate acne.
Others, however, attest that milk of magnesia's ability to prevent the production of natural acids actually makes skin more prone to breakouts, as producing these natural acids is the skin's way of cleaning and toning itself.
Because of milk of magnesia's capacity for oil-absorption, it can sometimes take too much moisture out of the skin, leaving it hypersensitive to breakouts, so those with sensitive or dry skin may want to try a milder product.
If you feel, however, that your oily or acne-prone skin may benefit from the use of milk of magnesia, it is certainly an inexpensive treatment to try--about $4.
00 a bottle--and if it doesn't solve your acne problems, it may ease your upset stomach.
