Texas Laws Requiring Handicapped Parking in Condominiums

    Size

    • A handicapped parking spot in Texas must be at least 96 inches wide and have an unobstructed access aisle at least 60 inches wide. Each handicapped spot must be designated with blue paint and a sign showing the international symbol of accessibility.

    Amount

    • The amount of handicapped accessible spots a condominium owner must provide varies with the total amount of parking spots in the condominium complex. Generally speaking, there must be at least one handicapped parking spot for every 25 total parking spaces. Handicapped parking spaces must also be located closest to the shortest accessible route to an entrance.

    Accessibility

    • A condominium owner must provide at least one van accessible handicapped space for every eight accessible parking spaces built. A van accessible space must be at least 96 inches wide, have a 96 inch wide access aisle and have a minimum vertical clearance of at least 114 inches.
