- 1). Select a beach to visit. It will be possible to find sea glass at all beaches, but some, such as those on the Hawaiian islands of Kauai and Oahu, have a great abundance of the treasure.
- 2). Visit the beach right after the tide, if possible, as that is when new sea glass is washed ashore.
- 3). Walk along the shore, as close to the water as possible. Wear sandals or shoes to avoid stepping on any sharp pieces of sea glass or other materials.
- 4). Move the sand around with your feet or hands periodically, as you walk.
- 5). Look for vibrant pieces of blue, green, white and red rock that are just above or beneath the sand. Place all found pieces in a bucket or bag.
- 6). Comb the same shoreline at least twice. It can be easy to miss pieces if you are tired, or straining your eyes. This also allows time for the ocean to wash up more sea glass.
