Definition:
Heavy metals are metals and metal compounds that may harm human health when absorbed or inhaled. In very small amounts, some heavy metals support life. But when taken in large amounts, they can become toxic.
Cigarette smoke contains a number of heavy metals including arsenic, cadmium and lead.
