A Political Commentary
There is a question that I'd like politicians of all political parties to answer: Why has the ambulance paramedics' dispute taken such a long time to answer? Well, I can answer that question right off the bat - politicians are too parsimonious to pay them the wages that they're entitled to - when you consider the hours they work, the lack of meal breaks that they have etc.
Some time has passed now, and the November State Election is just a fortnight away, and there is not so much time left for the two major political parties to work out their policies, then make their pre-election promises, which should include the following: Come to a much more realistic pay agreement with the paramedics - They've been taken for granted for far too long! Work out a better system regarding a way to controlling railway crossings and traffic flow - whether railways should go under or over freeways! Improve accommodation arrangements for disabled children and adults mentally and physically! Abolish secrecy in government - let the voting public know what plans they have to make life easier for them! In addition to the above: Give the IBAC Independent Broad-Based Commission Against Corruption the necessary "teeth" [power] to find and correct corruption! Impress upon School Governors and Principals the importance of a good Education.
Spend a whole Lot more money improving roads and better public transport - buses, trains and trams.
Ticket Inspectors should not behave like "nightclub bouncers" e.
g.
if people travel on public transport, they should be treated in a civil and humane way.
And, abolish magistrates, as the sentences they're handing out violent criminals are much too lenient! There has been a horrific increase in the use of drug traffic - particularly ice - there must be a better way of controlling and stopping the flow - why not set up a series of clinics in order to counsel addicts in order to encourage, and, maybe, "arrest" their habit! Serious environmental accidents like the Hazelwood coal fire which burned for 40 days in the township of Morwell, resulting in the township being smothered in smoke, should have been better managed, with the township adequately compensated.
Better still, close down the coalmine altogether, until a better way can be found to stop combustive outbreaks of this sort! These recommendations could be part of an electoral policy speech.
Let us see what happens in coming weeks.
