How to File VA Taxes
- 1). Obtain the 1040 state income tax form from either a local post office or the Virginia Department of Taxation website.
- 2). Fill out the form, including your name, address, social security number, employer, income and how much you owe in taxes. To figure out this number, multiply your income by the tax percentage of the tax bracket into which you fall. For example, if you made $10,000, you would owe $500 in taxes (.05 x 10,000).
- 3). Submit the form either online through the Department of Taxation website or by mail before the tax deadline. The mailing address is:
