Buyer's Keywords – What To Look For
When seeking to find the best buyer's keywords – that is, keywords entered by searcher late in the buying cycle when they are at the point of reaching for their wallet – there are not only many keyword modifiers to try but also many things to consider. You need to dance inside the head of the searcher a bit, and try to put yourself in their shoes. There are different classes and purposes of buying keywords, so let's take a look at some of them and how you might employ them.
The first thing to understand about buying keyword phrases is that they will get a lot less traffic than more general terms. That is to be expected, but that's also good news! What are you seeking, after all? Are you looking for someone with a general, informational intent or someone wanting that new big screen in the living room in time for the SC-UCLA game this weekend? Obviously, you want the searchers for whom the pump is already primed and ready to flow!
Here is a list (thanks to Lynn Terry, with a few additions of my own) that are commonly used when seeking to ferret out buyer's keywords:

Whew! A lot to try out, right! It should be dawning on you that there is an immense opportunity for searches like this. Let's see a few random searches I did using some of the above:
buy roses online 79 daily
order candy online 43 daily
purchase old movies 43 daily
get starcraft 2 398 daily (okay, it's hot right now!)
You get the point. There is a lot of gold to be mined here, and ranking for terms organically like these is a great deal easier than their more heavily-searched (and optimized for!) seed keywords.
Another obvious and very effective buyer's keyword technique is to use model numbers. Now the search volume for these will be far less, but the conversions will be far greater! A great place to come up with model numbers on items that are very popular is Amazon, eBay, Shopping.com, Yahoo, or any niche shopping portal that your market is active in. The thing to remember about using model numbers as buying keyword phrases is that you may not initially detect ANY search traffic, particularly on newer and hot items, as much of the keyword data would have yet to be collected. Don't let this stop you if you are in these niches. There is gold in that black sand!
Here's one last point to consider. There are good uses for informational keywords, as well. Using words like "free," "how to," and "tips," are good ways to create informational portals that can help you build a list. Just a thought….
Finding and employing buyer's keywords requires a bit of digging, but in the end you will be rewarded!
