- 1). Remove the wheels from the skate by inserting a 1/2-inch socket wrench into the center of the wheel and rotating counterclockwise until the wheel is loosened enough to pull off.
- 2). Place the wheel onto the tip of the axle of the skate. Do not place the wheel completely on. Gently push the wheel downward, and as you do it, notice the bearing will remain fixed on the axle. Slowly continue until the bearing is released.
- 3). Place the bearings into a metal bowl. Pour bearing cleaner over the bearings and allow them to soak. Remove each bearing one at a time while wearing cleaning gloves and gently clean each one with a toothbrush.
- 4). Dry each bearing completely. Place the bearings back into the skate wheels.
- 5). Apply one or two drops of lubricant into each bearing before installing the wheels back into the skates.
- 6). Repeat this cleaning process twice a month to ensure the bearings remain in working condition.
