The Dangers of Excess Stomach Fat

Excess stomach fat goes by many different names - beer belly, potbelly, spare tires, love handles...
name it.
Whatever name it goes by, our current culture seems particularly obsessed with the midsection of the body, especially in men.
A flat, sexy belly represents great sex appeal, indicating health, vitality, and even virility.
It is no wonder most people are desperate to find a solution to this problem.
Not everyone cares about how their midsections look; but let us be frank: a flabby, large midsection is particularly unsightly and unattractive.
An inordinately large belly is definitely not alluring by any means.
But much beyond appearances or sex appeal, research has proven that excess abdominal fat significantly exposes one to serious health risks like heart disease and diabetes.
So, it isn't just about looking great or being popular with the girls; losing stomach fat is one of the most effective ways to increase your health and fitness levels.
An apple-shaped body implies that one has plenty of excess weight in the abdominal region.
People having this body shape are much more prone to heart diseases and diabetes than those with bodies shaped more or less like pears.
Having a pear shaped body means that you carry more of your weight in your hips, buttocks, and thighs.
Why is this so? Well, studies have found a high correlation between excess stomach fat and bio-markers of severe inflammation.
The greater the amounts of body fat, particularly stomach fat, the higher the levels of C-reactive protein in the bloodstream.
C-reactive protein is a blood pointer of inflammation in the body.
Inflammation isn't by itself bad-it may even be beneficial sometimes-but continuous inflammation is indicative of heart trouble.
These three: excess body fat (particularly stomach fat), C-reactive proteins, inflammation, and heart diseases seem closely interrelated.
Why risk it then? You should strive by all means to keep your body fat very low so that your risks of heart trouble are low too.
One reason why stomach fat is especially risky is that it normally stays deeper in the abdomen; surrounding and enclosing the vital internal organs and is metabolized by the live.
In contrast, fat in the thighs, hips, and buttocks is stored subcutaneously - just beneath the skin.
