How Do I Troubleshoot a 1990 Buick Heater Fan?
- 1). Open up the Buick's hood and locate the fuse block near the firewall of the engine compartment.
- 2). Lift off the cover and use a fuse puller tool to remove the fuse in slot 17. Install a replacement 25A fuse. If this does not resolve the issue, you will need to replace the heater fan.
- 3). Disconnect the Buick's battery by removing the negative cable using a socket wrench.
- 4). Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry off the black plastic cover from the rear of the engine compartment firewall.
- 5). Disconnect the two vacuum hoses attached to the black vacuum tank located next to the heater fan.
- 6). Remove the five screws securing the heater fan in place using a Phillips-head screwdriver.
- 7). Push aside all of the wires to make room for the fan.
- 8). Pull the fan out of the engine compartment. If you cannot maneuver the fan out of the Buick, remove the exhaust gas recirculation (ERG) solenoid from the engine compartment bracket, which is held in by one 8mm bolt.
- 9). Install a replacement fan and reattach the screws, hoses and black plastic cover.

Reconnect the battery and close the hood.
