Painting on Wood Floors

    • 1). Create a rough surface for the paint to adhere to with the 150-grit sandpaper. Sand the entire wood surface to be painted until you see marks. Sweep the layer of dust from the floor and dispose of it. Clean the floor thoroughly with warm, soapy water. Leave the space to dry overnight.

    • 2). Choose a paint color that matches with your overall design style for the room. This is a personal decision and can range from subdued neutral hues in beiges or tans to bright bold shades of red, blue or even yellow.

    • 3). Use painter's tape to mask off any trim or baseboard spaces that are not to be painted. Pour the primer into the paint tray. Cut in, or paint the edges near the walls, with a nylon brush and primer. Apply primer to entire area of the floor with a roller. Allow the primer to fully dry according to the manufacturer's directions.

    • 4). Pour your chosen paint color into a clean tray. Cut in with the paint color along the baseboard or wall lines. Coat the entire floor space using the paint roller. Wait for the paint to dry completely. Use the manufacturer's guidelines to determine full dry times. Add more coats as necessary.
