Games for Six Year Old Kids

    Balloon in the Air

    • Kids love playing with balloons at this age, and you can take advantage of this when you have a large crowd. Blow up one balloon and let them work as hard as they can to keep the balloon up in the air. To avoid their tripping or falling, place a piece of tape under each child. Enforce that each stays on her tape to avoid unnecessary collisions.

    Races

    • Although 6-year-old children are too young to handle complicated relay races, regular races are a great way to keep them active and entertained. Challenge kids to race to a certain location, first by running, then by jumping, and then by walking backwards or rolling on the ground. Focus more on the process than on the winner of the race.

    Scavenger Hunts

    • Six year olds are at the perfect age for their first scavenger hunt. Draw simple pictures of a few objects, such as an acorn, a maple leaf and a pine cone. Photocopy the paper so each child receives all the pictures. Provide a plastic bag for each child to collect the objects. Send them off to find as many as they can.

    Sheep and Wolves

    • This variation of tag is a creative way to get children moving and playing. Section off a large area of the room or outdoor play area with cones or masking tape. Identify one child as the wolf and the rest of the group as sheep. The wolf tries to tag as many sheep as possible, and the sheep become wolves when they are tagged. The last sheep left untagged becomes the wolf for the next round, and play begins again.
