Can Fish Oil Pills Help Depression?

Many people are taking this supplements today.
Taking these prove to be excellent investments for the health, as they bring about a multitude of health benefits in various aspects including brain function, cardiovascular health, easing inflammation and pain, strengthening the immune system, and even in weight management.
However, there have been recent findings that strongly suggest the usefulness of it for depression.
How did they find this out and how exactly can this pills help depression? First of all, this is not to say that this can cure depression and anxiety.
It is not a magic pill that can make it all go away.
However, surmounting evidence has been found that points to the fact that this can help improve conditions of depressed patients.
One such study performed at the Harvard Medical School have found that omega 3 fatty acids in it can alleviate symptoms of depression in those with manic depressive (bipolar) mental disorders.
Another trial conducted at the Northern General Hospital in England have found schizophrenic patients showed significant improvement with intake of high doses of DHA fatty acids daily.
But what is the connection between these two is all about? Although studies are not definitive yet, it is suggested that it is omega 3 fatty acids that consist the brain's synaptic membranes.
These membranes are where much of the communication in the brain takes place.
Without adequate supply of these omega 3 fatty acids, it seems that such neurological communication becomes sluggish and to offset long term mental health problems, experts all agree that intake of ample amounts of omega 3 is necessary.
There also seems to be surmounting evidence that suggest the link between diet and feelings of depression.
In America for instance, where diets have been concentrated on fast food, fat-laden meals and saturated fats, it seems that more and more individuals are prone to feelings of anxiety and depression.
It has also been found that pregnant women who take in too little fish are prone to developing post-partum depression.
With many other similar findings, it seems safe to safe that fish oils can help a long way in smoothing out feelings, emotions and moods to relieve depression.
Studies further suggest that omega 3 fatty acids in it can increase levels of the brain chemical called serotonin, which is an important neurotransmitter in the brain.
Dozens of trials and scientific research endeavours all points to the positive connection that ties together omega 3 fatty acids in fish oil and depression.
Although fish oil will not instantaneously get rid of all those unwanted feelings of depression and more intensive care is needed for more serious cases, there is enough reason to believe that fish oil can naturally improve moods and bring you closer to the normal life that everyone deserves.
