Get your hair trimmed regularly. Trimmed ends can keep split ends at bay. Split ends are fragile and dry out easily, enabling matting and tangling. If you cannot afford regular salon visits, perhaps a friend you trust can help you trim your hair. - 2

Condition and deep-condition your hair. Blow-drying, heat styling and alcohol-rich hair products can leave hair dry and frazzled, making it prone to tangling. Condition after every shampoo and deep-condition with a hair mask or ultra-rich conditioner every week or two to keep strands healthy. - 3

Braid long hair before sleeping. Even if you wear your long hair loose during the day, keeping it braided or twisted into a bun at night to put a stop to unruly tangles. - 4). Comb hair starting at the ends rather than at the scalp. Start just an inch or so from the ends of your hair and move gradually up the hair shaft, especially when combing hair wet. Hair is prone to tangling at the ends so starting there can stop the problem at its origin.
