How to Contact Someone in Egypt During an Internet Cutoff
- 1). Call the person directly on his mobile phone -- or if he lives in Egypt, his Egyptian landline. The Egyptian government disabled SMS text messaging during the revolution, so this feature may also be non-functioning the next time the Egyptian government shuts off the Internet.
- 2). Consult any itinerary your friend, family member or colleague gave you and call the hotel or other lodging he's listed to get in contact with him. If you have family living in Egypt, call several relatives until you get an answer to make sure everyone is accounted for.
- 3). Send the person an email message if you aren't able to get hold of him via telephone. Once the Internet is restored, he is able to see the message and know you attempted to get in touch with him.
